To attach database to SQL Server 2000
1. Click on Start/Programs/Microsoft SQL Server/ Enterprise Manager. NOTE: If it pops for user name and password then they have to setup all the users that are using GMS RLSS. Otherwise they won’t be able to connect to the database. Or they can use this one user name and password to setup DSN on all the computers. 2. On the left panel under Console Root you will see Microsoft SQL Servers. Click on Microsoft SQL Servers and you will see SQL Server Group. Click on the Plus mark to the left of SQL Server Group and You will see (local) (Windows NT) 3. Click on (local)(Windows NT). 4. Right Click on Databases and choose New Database. Type RLSSSQL in the Name Box. Note – the database name must have “SQL” somewhere in the name, ie. RLSS111SQL. 5. Click on the second tab - Data Files. Expand the Location column and make sure you know where the data files are stored. 6. Click OK. It may take a couple minutes to create the database. 7. Once it’s done you will see RLSSSQL on the list of databases. Right click on RLSSSQL and highlight All Tasks and choose Restore Database. Restore Database form will appear. The name should be RLSSSQL. Do not change it. There are three options under Restore: Databases, Filegroup or Files. You need to choose “From Device”. Click on Select Device button. 8. Choose Restore Devices form will appear. “Restore from:” is defaulted to Disk. You need to click the Add button. Find the file name RLSSSQL and click on Ok. 9. You will see the file is listed under Device Name in the list box. Click on Ok to close it. And you are back on Restore Database form. 10. Click on the second tab - Options. 11. Check Force restore over existing database option 12. Under “Restore Database Files as:” the second column “Move to physical file name” check the file path. If this file path is different than the location you checked before when you first created the database, you need to change the file path to match that path. We just want to move this backup file into the location where the database was first created. 13. Click on the OK button and it will show the progress of restoring. You will get the message that the database has been restored successfully - or other messages telling you if there is a problem. (If you have more than one SQL Server database you need to repeat the above steps again and using a different database name.) To Restore Database to SQL Server 2005 1. Click on SQL Server Management Studio 2. Connect to Server form will pop up. 3. You don’t need to change anything. Server Name is your computer name. 4. Click on Connect button. 5. On the left panel right click on Databases and choose New Database 6. In Database Name box enter RLSSSQL (or whatever the database name is) then click on Ok at the bottom. Note – the database name must have “SQL” somewhere in the name, ie. RLSS111SQL. 7. It will take a few seconds to build the database. 8. Once you see RLSSSQL on the database list. Right click on it and choose Tasks/Restore/Database… 9. Choose From Device and click on the button to the right. 10. Click on Add on the next screen and change files of type to All Files. 11. Locate the database backup file you downloaded (or copied from the cd). Click on Ok. 12. You will return to Restore Database screen. 13. On the bottom grid you will see the file you selected. You need to put a check mark in the grid in the Restore column. 14. On the left corner you need to click on Options. 15. Check Overwrite the existing database option. 16. Click on Ok and it will tell you if the database has been restored successfully. To restore a database to SQL Server 2008 1. Click on Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. After you connect to the appropriate instance of the Microsoft SQL Server Database Engine, in Object Explorer, click the server name to expand the server tree. 2. Expand Databases. Right-click on it and then click New Database. 3. Type the database name, i.e. RLSSSQL in the database name box. Note: The database name must have "SQL" somewhere in the name. You don't need to change anything else on this form. Just click the OK button. 4. Locate the RLSSSQL in the Object Explorer. Right-click and point to Tasks, and then click Restore and click Database, which opens the Restore Database dialog box. 5. On the General page, the name of the restoring database appears in the To database list box. Should be RLSSSQL in this case. 6. To specify the source and location of the backup sets to restore, click the following options: From device Click the browse button, which opens the Specify Backup dialog box. In the Backup media list box it should have File listed as one of the device type. To select one or more devices for the Backup location list box, click Add. If you can’t find your backup file, you can change the files of type to be All Files. Once you select your file click on Ok and OK again to return to the General page. 7. In the Select the backup sets to restore grid, select the backups and check Restore check box. This grid displays the backups available for the specified location. By default, a recovery plan is suggested. To override the suggested recovery plan, you can change the selections in the grid. Any backups that depend on a deselected backup are deselected automatically. 8. In the Restore options panel, you need to check the following option: Overwrite the existing database. 9. Click on Ok button and it will restore the database and you will get a message. It may take a few minutes depends on the size of the backup. To restore a database to SQL Server 2012 1. Click on Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. Click on Connect. 2. After you connect to the appropriate instance of the Microsoft SQL Server Database Engine, in Object Explorer, click the server name to expand the server tree. 3. Expand Databases. Right-click on it and then click New Database. 4. Type the database name, i.e. RLSSSQL in the database name box. Note: The database name must have "SQL" somewhere in the name. You don't need to change anything else on this form. Just click the OK button. 5. Locate the RLSSSQL in the Object Explorer. Right-click and point to Tasks, and then click Restore and click Database, which opens the Restore Database dialog box. 6. On the General page, the name of the restoring database appears under Destination in the Database list box. Should be RLSSSQL in this example. 7. To specify the source and location of the backup sets to restore, click the following options: In the Source section, click on Device. Click the browse button, which opens the Select backup devices dialog box. In the Backup media type list box it should have File listed as one of the device type. To select one or more devices for the Backup media list box, click Add. Find the folder containing your database backup. Once you click on that, your database will appear in the large box to the right. Click on your database backup name and then click OK. If you can’t find your backup file, you can change the files of type to be All Files. Once you select your file click on Ok and OK again on the Select Backup Devices screen to return to the General page. 8. In the Restore plan grid, select the backups and check Restore check box. This grid displays the backups available for the specified location. By default, a recovery plan is suggested. To override the suggested recovery plan, you can change the selections in the grid. Any backups that depend on a deselected backup are deselected automatically. 9. In upper left under Select a page, click on Options. In the Restore options panel, you need to check the following option: Overwrite the existing database (with replace). 10. Click on Ok button and it will restore the database and you will get a message that your database restored successfully. It may take a few minutes depends on the size of the file. |
